FAQS

  • What makes CrossFit Initiative so great anyway?
People like you. Seriously, we have such an amazing community of great people. We really take pride in providing the best environment possible for every member to achieve great things. And the friendly inclusive environment wouldn't be possible without great members and coaches. Oh yeah, and we have cool equipment and a nice facility ;-)
  • How fit should I be before starting CrossFit?
This is a very common question. But asking this is like asking "how clean do I need to be before I can take a shower?". At CrossFit Initiative, we will NOT ask you to do anything beyond your current abilities. In fact, we believe that a slow start with a focus on good mechanics, flexibility, and clean eating is the best way to approach CrossFit. Over time, your skills, strength, power, endurance, coordination, etc... will dramatically improve. You'll surprise yourself! But even if you've never worked out a day in your life, you are fit enough to workout at CrossFit Initiative!
  • How many days per week should I workout?
We believe in being active in some way every day. But how many days per week you train at CrossFit Initiative will depend on your fitness level as well as your hobbies. But as a rule of thumb, we recommend a minimum of 3 days/week.
  • How should I eat if I want to lose weight?
As you're probably aware, there are a LOT of diets that are recommended, pushed, sold, etc... in American society. That having been said, I can confidently give you an answer that will apply to everyone and is WILDLY effective: Eat meats, veggies, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and NO SUGAR (this includes alcohol). If you dump all sugar (read labels) and alcohol, you'll likely lose weight within 2-3 days. And the weightloss will not be water weight. Your body will stop converting excess carbohydrate to fat. This will also reduce the stress you are putting on your liver.
  • I just want to be healthy, why should I lift weights?"
Resistance training is such a foundational piece of health that I don't know where to begin. Your bones and connective tissues NEED to be stressed in a controlled way. Your bone density will improve through strength training. Being stronger will improve your quality of life in countless ways. Having strong muscles and bones reduces your risk of injuries and make it much easier for you to stay lean.
  • I hear CrossFit is dangerous. Is that true?
CrossFit isn't dangerous. Bad decisions are dangerous. Our mission is to improve the quality of life of our members. That won't happen if they get injured. That's why we espouse a long-game approach to CrossFit. We put the focus on good mechanics and make sure everyone is lifting appropriate weights for their current abilities. Everyone is going to pick up a bag of dog food at the grocery store, help a friend move, or do yardwork at some point. We want you to learn how to do that stuff safely and be good at it. The only downside is that you might have a lot more people asking you to help them move after a few months at CrossFit Initiative.
